Our Take: This is another specially customized unit from HP by CoolTOYZ, with the intention of offering a bang-for-the-buck gaming laptop with very long battery endurance. Gamers understand that in the real world, a Fast Processor is only beneficial if supported by an equally powerful video card(GPU) critical for graphic intensive applications like gaming and desktop publishing. With this in mind, this model was configured with the ATI Radeon HD4650 with 1Gb of DDR3 dedicated memory, which has earned the reputation of dethroning the very popular nVidia 9600M(GT). Based on WEI score, you will be glad to note that this machine provided a score of 5.1Pts out-of-the-box and importantly with the 12-cell battery endurance tested at 270minutes under heavy load. Outstanding!!!

1. Design:
We begin with the aesthetic aspect as this is the first feature you will see in this model. Hp has become known for being able to merge fashion and electronics, and this is most evident with the use of Imprints in the Pavilion Line. The DV6 offered here features the very elegant Espresso Imprint described by Hp senior designer Stacy Wolf as featuring “white flickering balls that erupt outward against a sleek high gloss black backdrop”. For lack of words to describe it we will call it as it we see it -> the design is beautiful and is a classic not to become out of fashion in the near future.



The Espresso Imprint is enhanced with the color-matched keyboard and media controls that light up and become visible only when the system is powered, tagged by Hp as “magic chrome”. It is called magic chrome because the metal-like-finish along the top of the keyboard is able to interact with the user by employing touch-sensitive buttons that provide quick access to volume and media controls. Attention to detail is evident on the LCD back cover where you will find a Backlit HP logo that turn bright white when powered on. At the least the lighted logo is much more attractive than a cheap stick-on badge logo. It is only proper the HP brand is given importance in the design as HP is currently the No.1 PC maker in the world and not just a cheap-aspiring-wanna be brand.

2. Graphics:
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card is ATI’s counterpart to the nVidia 9600M(GT) graphics adapter. Most interesting is that the ATI 4650 with 1GB of dedicated DDR3 RAM outperforms the popular Nividia 9600M(GT) as evidenced by multiple synthetic benchmarks.

Good performance data and a sizeable price advantage compared to Nvidia's offering make the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 especially interesting for gamers and power users looking for that bang-for-the-buck purchase.



Gamers on the go will be happy to know that the powerful graphics performance translated into blistering frame rates. F.E.A.R. ran at an incredibly smooth 104 frames per second in autodetect mode (1024 x 768), which dropped to a very playable 84 fps (1366 x 768) with the settings bumped up to maximum; these were light-years ahead of the 36-fps and 14-fps thin-and-light averages. The hyper-detailed visuals of Far Cry 2 moved at a brisk 77.9 fps in autodetect, and dropped to 49.5 fps with all of the visual effects activated. 3. Processor:
We repeat our opinion that from the time of the 1st generation Intel Core Duo Mobile Processor, the offered speed has been more than sufficient for 99% of applications available. Because faster speed only benefits users by starting up the laptop faster, there has been a shift on the basis of performance from the traditional Processor based, to today‘s system performance based on the Graphic processing Units. As validation of this shift in performance, Vista measures the performance of each component when measuring the Windows Experience Index (WEI).



We configured this model with the right balance of speed and power efficiency for the longest battery life possible. We selected for this customized model Intel's Core2 Duo T6600 with 2.2Ghz of processing speed, 2mb L2 cache and 800Mhz Front side bus. The T6600(2.2) is made using the latest 45nm manufacturing technology[Penryn Core] which according to Intel refers to the Manufacturing technology or "The size and spacing of the processor's transistors (silicon etchings), which partially determine the switching speed. The diameter of transistors is measured in microns. One micron is one-millionth of a meter." What benefits does manufacturing technology provide? According to Intel documentation the 45nm technology provides faster processor performance with the same Core Speed while consuming less power than its 65nm counterparts.



4. Display:
The gorgeous 16-inch widescreen display features a resolution of 1366x768 pixels in the 16:9 HD format. The 16-inch widescreen belongs to a new breed of screens moving from a 16:10 to a 16:9 aspect ratio, which has both benefits and drawbacks. One downside is that with a 16:9 resolution you lose the extra centimeter's worth of vertical viewing versus the 15.4-inch screen. A shorter screen means more scrolling down when reading long web pages and long documents. What you gain, besides a numeric keypad, is a display that is HD(High definition) friendly a sensational movie experience for your High Definition movies.



The colors on the Dv6t screen are vibrant and really come to life thanks to the Brightview Display technology. Speaking of being a entertainment centered machine, it is noteworthy to add that this model comes with a remote control that is very useful when you use the DV6 as a media player connected to a large LCD display via the built-in HDMI port. Also, the speakers on the dv6t are Altec Lansing branded and offer decent sound quality even up to a very loud volume.

5. Battery Life:
This is where we separate the noobs(newbies) from the seasoned laptop users. Intended as a gaming machine we have customized this DV6T with a powerful video card in the ATI HD4650. Powerful components also means power hungry. To provide endurance for long hours of use while on the field away from a wall outlet this DV6T was configured with an equally important 12-CELL battery. A newbie would ask, why pay a hefty premium for battery life? Long time Mobile computer users have realized that a powerful machine is only as useful as it has the endurance to power the machine. When an additional two(2) hours means finishing a report to meet a deadline or complete that next game level, then you will understand why long time laptop users have a "obsession" for long battery life.
