Our Take: Like previous DV3 models the latest DV3T-2000 offers the "sweet spot" between design, portability, and power. The imprint has been updated with the Espresso Black Imprint. The upgraded Core2 Duo T6500(2.1) offers more horsepower while maintaining energy efficiency. The 13.3inch L.E.D. display has been upgraded to feature a High Definition[16:9] 1366x768 resolution while maintaining portability. Even the graphics has been upgraded to the 512mb DDR2 nVidia G_105M for greater capability on gaming. With all the upgrades HP should have made a new model number. In anycase, like previous DV3 models what you get is a small, thin, yet powerful machine with all essentials features needed by the road warrior. Yes!, You can have IT ALL! XoXo!

Hp has become known for being able to merge fashion and electronics, and this is most evident with the use of Imprints in the Pavilion Line. The DV3 offered here features the very elegant Espresso Black Imprint described by Hp senior designer Stacy Wolf as featuring “white flickering balls that erupt outward against a sleek high gloss black backdrop”. For lack of words to describe it we will call it as it we see it -> the design is fine-looking and is a classic not to become out of fashion in the near future.

The Espresso Imprint is enhanced with the color-matched keyboard and media controls that light up and become visible only when the system is powered, tagged by Hp as “magic chrome”. It is called magic chrome because the metal-like-finish along the top of the keyboard is able to interact with the user by employing touch-sensitive buttons that provide quick access to volume and media controls. Attention to detail is evident on the LCD back cover where you will find a Backlit HP logo that turn bright white when powered on. At the least the lighted logo is much more attractive than a cheap stick-on badge logo. It is only proper the HP brand is given importance in the design as HP is currently the No.1 PC maker in the world and not just a cheap-aspiring-wanna be brand.

As has been the tradition at CoolTOYZ, we rely on the Windows® Experience Index to measure the capability of each component of a laptop. WEI is a feature built into Windows Vista™ and measures various performance characteristics and capabilities of the hardware it is running on and reports them as a Windows Experience Index(WEI) score, a number between 1.0 and 5.9 for Windows Vista. What is striking on this system is the WEI score of the processor is 5.1Point is perfectly matched to the gaming graphic performance which is also at 5.1Pts.

The graphic processing unit is important because it is a 2nd processor that converts data into images that users can see. The 5.1Point WEI score on gaming performance is made possible by the Nvidia GeForce G105M. Featuring 512mb of dedicated DDR2 Memory, the Nvidia GeForce G105M is a higher clocked GeForce 9300M G and therefore a DirectX 10 capable graphics adapter for small and thin notebooks. The Nvidia GeForce G105M also features the new VP3 video processor (whereas 8400M, 9300M G had VP2) with more video features and better hd-video decoding support. As per nVidia the GeForce G105M GPUs can play all the latest games with all the detail, lighting and special effects the way they were meant to be played. For more informaton <click here>

Like so many laptops of late the dv3 range has moved to a 16:9 aspect display. Its 1,366 x 768 resolution does mean less vertical space than older machines, but the wider aspect is better for film viewing and also makes it easier to view documents side-by-side - a less advertised but arguably more useful benefit! Like many this is also an LED backlit display, so it's very bright, though the reflective finish won't help matters in bright sunlight. In normal light the image quality is good without ever being outstanding. Colours are nice and vibrant, black levels decent, and viewing angles reasonable.

It's not hard to love HP! As the top PC Brand you might figure they would be resting on their collective laurels but instead, they continue to improve the products making computers more personal that appeal to both business and casual users alike. Light and small enough for reasonable portability, yet powerful enough for most usage needs, the HP Pavilion dv3T-2000 is the road warrior's friend, and delivers on many aspects. In a sentence -> The dv3T-2000 delivers mobility without sacrificing style and performance.
