Our take: This DV4-2165DX is like a Hyundai Tucson 2010. The DV4-2165DX has the stylish upscale design just like the Tucson 2010 <click here>. The DV4-2165DX offers the latest AMD “Tigris” platform featuring the new components AMD Turion II Dual Core M500 and the impressive ATI Mobility HD4200; like the modern 6Speed Automatic transmission in the Tucson 2010. The DV4-2045DX is classified by AMD as belonging to the VISION PREMIUM category <click here>, meaning it has capabilities a notch above your basic laptop including capability for multi-tasking, basic photo-editing and mainstream/casual gaming; while the Tucson is a compact-crossover class vehicle. And finally the DV4-2165DX and the Tucson have the same purchase barrier -> the brand. If you can get over the AMD Processor in the same way you get over the Korean HYUNDAI brand, what is offered here is a real Bang-For-the-Buck performance; an Incredible Mix of beauty and capability.



The sleek white and silver finish what HP calls Moonlight White, is a welcome relief from the typical piano-black finish used on many of today's notebooks. Fans of the high-gloss look will appreciate how the lighter color seems to absorb smudges rather than showcase them. A pattern of wavy lines embedded in the finish adds a touch of elegance, and the highly polished chrome trim along the front and sides completes the look. The Moonlight White motif extends to the interior, where the palm rest uses the same patterned design as the lid and the all-white keyboard is framed by white grillwork. Also embedded in the lid is an HP logo, which is accentuated by light blue backlighting that is an eye catcher specially when working in limited light. Weighing 5.2 pounds (6.0 pounds travel) and measuring 1.5 inches thick, the dv4 is light enough for frequent travel while definitely a representation of your good taste!



AMD's latest TIGRIS platform is aimed at mainstream laptops and is AMD's first platform upgrade for AMD since it launched Puma in the middle of 2008. The new AMD "TIGRIS" platform offers new technologies from AMD including the latest mobile processor Turion_II. The Turion_II Dual Core M500 processor as tested using the software GPUZ shows 2.2Ghz processor speed, 1MB L2 cache and 1813Mhz of Front side bus speed(FSB). Technically the biggest change in the new processor is the use of the 45nm manufacturing process which is expected to result to lower power consumption thus longer battery life. For those still using XP like me, but want to upgrade to Windows7 it is noteworthy that AMD's entire line of new processors feature AMD-V, giving them the virtualization technology necessary to run XP Mode with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate. It has been a tradition at CoolTOYZ to test each new system using the Windows Experience Index first seen on Vista and now continued with Windows7. As shown in the WEI score below, the Turion_II Dual Core M500 is provided a score of 5.7Points which is comparable to an Intel Core2 T6600(2.2) found in the Vaio NW240 <click here> …not bad at all!



AMD has been able differentiate itself from Intel because Intel (currently) offers only CPUs, while AMD offers both the CPU and GPU leading to increasingly rich PC system capabilities. It is not a surprise that the new AMD TIGRIS platform focuses not merely on not merely processor speed but more on increased graphic capability. As evident with the WEI score above, the ATI HD4200 is given 5.4points which is impressive given that the VAIO NW240 with an Intel X4500MHD <click here> is only rated at 3.4Points using the same Windows7 WEI scores. Simple math the HD4200 is 59% more capable.

The ATI Mobility HD4200 is the update of the impressive HD3200, adding more processing power for HD content and light gaming and also bringing DX 10.1 support to the chipset as well. Because it is new a lot of the benchmark softwares we normally use are still not updated to measure the performance of the HD4200. What we did was test it on actual games and we impressed with that we can play Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: World at War, and even L4D_2 on medium settings. This is certainly something a user can not do with an Intel X4500M and for additional reference we are posting below comparative 36Mark'06 benchmark results for your evaluation of the graphic capability of the ATI HD4200 in this system.



The new ATI Mobility HD4200 on paper is described as an onboard (shared Memory) graphics chip based on the HD 3400 graphics core and features the UVD 2 video engine/Avivo HD to decode HD videos. Mobility Radeon HD 4200 is a derivative of Mobility Radeon 3400 with missing video memory although Manufacturers can add a side-port memory to make it dedicated-like graphic card.. HP in the specs provided for the DV4-2045DX indicates 128MB Display Cache Memory AMD M880G with 128B GDDR2 (sideport memory). What does this mean? Some say it means the system has dedicated memory. Honestly we do still do not know and before making a claim we need to do additional research to be able to provide a factual answer. What can not be denied is that the ATI HD4200 offers stark improvement over the previous model ATI HD3200 and definitely deserving of the VISION PREMIUM category by AMD.



The HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment Notebook PC integrates a full spectrum of multimedia features, bringing mobile entertainment to a whole new level. We still admire this laptop like we admire Tennis Player Ana Ivanovic and maintain the opinion that the DV4-2045DX offers users an Incredible Mix of beauty and capability
